David Dodge Lewis and Ephraim Rubenstein - The Quickening Image

April 12 - May 27, 2017
Reception: May 5, 2017 from 6-8pm during the Book Hill Spring Art Walk.

Maurine Littleton Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of “The Quickening Image.” The Wax-Resist Drawings of David Dodge Lewis and Ephraim Rubenstein chronicles a new way to draw: Wax-resist drawing is a layered, large-scale, mixed-media approach that utilizes wax as a resist for subsequent ink and charcoal washes. It incorporates both wet and dry materials, as well as linear and painterly elements. The process allows for carefully rendered passages alongside more spontaneous and chaotic applications.Read More...

An artist who embraces the simple expression of narrative, Janis’ concise work perfects visual storytelling with fantastic imagery. His work explores the unseen sides of life, longing and loneliness, juxtaposed with fragile beauty.
